Mountains and Beers: White Crow Brewing in Pyeongchang, South Korea

Looking for a quality beer after hiking or skiing in Gangwon-do, South Korea? Well, White Crow Brewing is your super foreigner friendly option – so friendly that its actually owned and operated by a Canadian. With a tasty food menu, 4 staple beers and 4 rotating seasonal brews – this is year-round nature & beer retreat that should be on your Korean bucket list!

Situated in the southwestern region of Gangwon-do, White Crow Brewing is easily accessible with just a 1.5-hour train ride from Seoul’s Cheongnyangni Station to Dunnae Station. This area is conveniently located within a 30-minute drive or a 20-minute train journey from the bustling Pyeongchang area, which hosted the 2018 Winter Olympics. Making it both close enough to many other attractions, while maintaining the quant town feeling.

For additional logistical information – South of Seoul wrote a wonderful article that discusses local hotels and transportation to and from White Crow Brewing.

Offering a diverse selection, White Crow Brewing presents a split menu featuring four seasonal beers alongside their flagship four brews. This array provides an excellent opportunity to showcase their craftsmanship and to emphasize locally sourced ingredients, with sampler flights available for both options.

Over the course of two evenings, my partner and I got to try three of their signature beers (Pyeongchang Gold, Alti Amber, and Gorani Brown) and one of the seasonal beers (Vanilla Valley Sour). We were major fans of the Alti Amber and Vanilla Valley Sour. If we were to go again, we would get with a sampler flight to be able to try all the seasonal beers.

The food menu is small but with a lot of winners. I got to try the pepperoni and Quatro Cheese pizza, the fish & chips and the French fries. All were tasty and worth the price. Pizzas are on the smaller size, but good to split with beer with another person.

While the food and drink are great here, the real draw is the atmosphere. With so many out door seating options both under the patio and in adarondak chairs – if the weather is good, this is a fantastic place to take in a sunset or just enjoy a sunny day.

While I haven’t had the chance to enjoy a beer at White Crow Brewing after a day in the snow, it does look pretty magical as well.

White Crow Brewing shares an entrance with the Pyeongchang Botanic Garden, which welcomes visitors with a nominal entry fee of 5,000 won, granting access to explore the grounds and capture memorable photos. Moreover, the garden features an artistic café for visitors to enjoy.

Happy Hiking and Beer Drinking,

-Aurora
